Using The HP Printer App For Wireless Printing

Hewlett-Packard has created a printing app that can be used on almost any Apple or Android device. It enables you to send any content you wish, including text documents, webpages, and photos, from your cell phone to nearby HP printers, using your wireless network.

Many HP printers are now ePrint enabled, which means that wireless printing is as easy as touching a button. If you have an ePrint-enabled printer, you can print documents wirelessly not only when you are nearby, but from any location in the world, which is why it is certainly worth thinking about investing in an ePrint-enabled printer.

How to Tell if It’s ePrint-Enabled?

Not sure if your printer has ePrint technology built-in? HP says that the majority of their printers that were purchased after 2010 will be ePrint-enabled, so chances are, if you bought one after then, it will come with ePrint technology as standard. It should also feature an ePrint icon somewhere on its person.

Failing that, you can check out the HP Web-Connected Printers page to see if your printer has the tech (remember if it doesn’t have in-built ePrinter technology, you can still use the app – you just need to be connected with your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your printer).

Using the HP Printer App for Wireless Printing

Step One

The first thing you’ll want to do if you haven’t already is to set up your HP Printer. Instructions on doing this correctly should be included in the manual or on the HP website.

Step 2

Next, you’re going to want to install the HP smart app on your phone. You can do this by visiting the Google Play store and searching for the hp smart app for android. If you’re using an Apple device type HP ePrint in the app store.

In order to install the app, you’ll need to ensure that you’re running Android OS 6.0 – also known as Marshmallow – or higher on your cell phone or mobile device, or if you’re using an Apple Device, iOS 11 or later.

Step 3

Visit 123.hp.com from the browser on your tablet or cell phone and enter the exact make and model of your HP printer. That should enable you to download the HP printer software you require.

Step 4

If you haven’t already, connect your mobile device to the hp print wireless network ( the same Wi-Fi network that your printer is running on).

Step 5

Open up the HP Smart app for wireless printing and add your printer.

It’s important, at this point, to be aware that there may be restrictions in Android 7.0 – also known as Nougat – that may prevent you from completing the Wi-Fi printer setup with the HP Smart app on Android. If your attempts to set up the printer in this way do not work, you’ll need to visit 123.hp.com from a computer or device running Windows or iOS. Then you should be able to set up the wireless connection via the HP Installation process.

Alternatively, you could use the wireless setup wizard on your computer’s control panel, or your Wi-FI’s WPS function to connect the printer.

Once everything is connected to the Wi-Fi the HP smart app for android or iOS should be able to discover your printer making it possible to print documents with ease.

Step 6

If you can see your printer in the app, tap on it. A series on on-screen prompts should appear and you will need to follow them in order to complete the process.

If your printer does not appear on the display, tap the Plus icon in order to select a printer from the list of printers that have been found by your wi-fi mobile device, or to select a new one, then follow the directions you are given.

If you have trouble finding your printer after this, you may need to check out the troubleshooting section for this app on the HP website.
