Getting Started – Buy Replacement Ink Cartridges

First things first, you’ll want to make sure you’ve bought new ink cartridges for your Canon Pixma printer. Make sure to double-check if the new ink cartridges are compatible with your printer. You can check your printer manual or simply search online for ink cartridges for your printer model. Once you have acquired your ink cartridges you’re ready to go.

1. Removing the Used/Old Cartridges

NOTE: Make sure that the printer is ON while doing the process otherwise, you may damage your printer.

Grab a cloth or tissue and place it beneath the front of the printer to catch any ink that may spill while replacing the cartridge. Retract the paper output tray and extension if any then open the front cover of the printer. The ink will slide which will make it easily accessible to replace.

NOTE: Do not touch the ink cartridge holder while it is moving.

Push the old cartridge downward then pull to remove. Some models have a small lever you can lift at the right or the left side of the cartridge to release, then firmly grab the used/old cartridge and pull/slide it out of the holder.

2. Installing the New Cartridges

Now it is time to install the new cartridges. Unseal the new cartridges and remove the plastic from the print nozzle and electrical contacts.

NOTE: Do not touch the print nozzle and electrical contacts

Normally, when facing the printer, the right side is where the black ink goes and left for colors. You can also check for a label that indicates ‘“B” or “C” which stands for black and color. Now, slide the new cartridge with the label facing out, once it is in place, raise the cartridge until you hear a click. If your printer it the one with the lever, push/slide the cartridge into place, then push the lever back down to lock it in place. Close the Cover

Depending on your printer model, it may perform a test automatically or send a prompt to your computer to perform a test. It’s always a good idea to run the test and it only takes a few minutes. You can also check the ON lamp/LED. If it flashes ‘1’ green for one minute and stays lit then the ink cartridge has been installed properly

You can now use your printer as usual. Enjoy!
