The 20 Gigabyte DSM-602H is a portable and removable external HDD (Hard Disk Drive) device that connects to an Ethernet port either directly to a desktop or laptop computer or to a hub, switch, or router on a local area network (LAN). The DSM-600 Central Home Drive Series provides a fast and easy way to add high performance storage capacity in your home, small business or school network. These Central Home Drive devices are ideal for sharing archived digital photos of family and friends, digital video, music captured in MP3 or MPEG-4, games, important documents or other files among computers and other networked devices in your home. Using Intel IXP420 network processors based on Intel XScale technology and Ultra ATA/100 HDDs, the DSM600 Series drives are capable of providing high data transfer rates over the Fast Ethernet network connection. The DSM-600 Series of products provide instant network storage capacity – 20GB and 40GB - over an Ethernet connection. Designed using an Intel Xscale processor and Ultra ATA/100 technology, the DSM-600 series provide fast data transfer rates over the Fast Ethernet network connection. The latest technology implemented in the DSM-600 Series ensures the maximum sustainable transfer rates for data across the network.
The DSM-600 series supports UPnP and Rendevous protocols to ensure that Windows and Macintosh clients instantly discover the network storage devices as drives as soon as they are connected to the network. Because of its incorporated Samba server, Linux clients will also recognize the DSM-600 series as a network drive.
The DSM-600 series comes with an Auto MDI/MDI-X Ethernet port to ensure that with any Ethernet cable configuration, (straight-through or crossover) a network connection will be established. With its hot-swappable feature, the DSM-600 series can be easily moved to a different network - a true plug and play solution.
With its small housing, the DSM-600 series of products can be easily moved from one network to another. If network storage space is limited, add another DSM-602H or DSM-604H. Each device also comes with a stand if the unit needs to be vertically positioned to save desktop space.
For most applications, the user will not need to make changes to the default settings of the DSM-600 series products; however, the user can access and modify the advance features using Web-based GUI with any standard Web browser (Internet Explorer V6, Netscape Navigator V7, or Apple Safari)
